At 10.30am, depart hotel for Duke Street in the Merchants’ Quarter. Representing the city's first mercantile ‘boom’, this area is a patchwork of merchants’ houses and warehouses built to serve the Old Dock that opened in 1715. Continue towards Chinatown, home to Europe’s oldest Chinese community and to the largest Chinese arch outside of China, gifted from Shanghai, a city twinned with Liverpool.

Late morning, head towards Rodney Street, known as the "Harley Street of the North", due to the number of doctors who practise there. Famous for its Georgian architecture, it forms the Rodney Street conservation area, together with Hope Street and Gambier Terrace, home to over 60 Grade II listed buildings, including the only known British example of an intact 20th-century photographic studio.

Around 12.30pm, arrive at the historic Philharmonic Dining Rooms for lunch. This Grade 1-listed Victorian pub has been described as the most ornate in the country, with its wood paneling, rich tiling, leather sofas, stained glass, and chandeliers.

After lunch, visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King with its striking design, recognised as one of Liverpool’s most famous landmarks. Explore the Cathedral's majestic interior, which includes modern works of art and stunning design features, such as its striking Lantern Tower - the world’s largest area of coloured glass.

Take a mid-afternoon walk along Hope Street, named after the merchant who built its first house, and known for its historical landmarks and iconic buildings, such as the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Hope Street links the city’s two cathedrals and you will arrive at Liverpool Cathedral, the largest cathedral and religious building in Britain.
