Meet David Praill - Tour leader and editor of ehospice

David Praill has had a long career in hospice care - now retired, he continues to be actively engaged as Managing Editor of ehospice.com. A graduate of York and Durham universities, David moved from Mathematics student to Episcopal Parish Priest to Course Director of St George’s College, Jerusalem. He founded the travel company “Wind, Sand & Stars” and was the founding Director of the McCabe Educational Trust, before joining St. Luke’s Hospice (Harrow & Brent) in 1991.

David became the chief executive of Help the Hospices (now Hospice UK) in 1996 where he led the organization through a period of significant growth and change – firmly positioning it as the leadership organization for UK hospices and the national voice for hospice care. David was also the founder of ehospice through which he continues to engage with hospice and palliative care organizations around the world. He has spoken at conferences around the world and published articles in various publications including a Palliative Medicine editorial - "Who are we here for?"

From 24 September- 4 October 2025, David is leading a tour that follows a path through the history of palliative care in the UK - a fascinating, revolutionary journey.

This tour will explore the modern development and current practice of care of the dying alongside a consideration of the history of medicine and early monastic contribution to health. There will also be opportunities for group discussion and personal reflection while you visit four of the UK’s most charismatic cities; London, Cambridge, Durham and Edinburgh, exploring their iconic landmarks and engaging engage with their medical histories. Visits include the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Ely Cathedral, Charterhouse, and beautiful Loch Lomond.
